Action Learning
How was Action Learning developed?
Action Learning is a process that was developed by an astrophysicist, Reg Revans, along with Einstein and Ernest Rutherford. These three gentlemen were working together to discover atomic energy and they became so entrenched in their entrenched beliefs and assumptions that they were stuck and unable to make any progress. They discovered that trying to solve a problem through expert knowledge created resistance rather than innovative solutions and new discoveries. Together, they developed this process called Action Learning to help them examine their assumptions, their ‘expert’ knowledge, their beliefs, and their fears so they could become open to fresh answers, insights and new levels of awareness. As a result of this process they had the breakthrough they needed to discover atomic energy. As Einstein has said, “You cannot solve a problem with the same consciousness that created it.” We may not be searching for atomic energy, but many of us are searching for answers and solutions to problems that hold us back, create frustration and leave us feeling dissatisfied in our lives. Action Learning is a process that opens minds and hearts to new levels of awareness and to solutions that are transformative because it ‘breaks through’ the resistance created by existing patterns of thinking.
Some of the challenges that Action Learning helps us work through are:
- What we think is the problem, usually isn’t the real problem.
- Discovering what the problem or opportunity really is.
- Taking action in new ways to get new results.
- Discovering new ways of thinking that break through our old patterns.

What Others Have to Say About Action Learning
“I just had an overwhelming urge to express my extreme gratitude for action learning. I can't believe how different my perspective is. It feels like a whole new life has opened up to me. Thank you soooooooo much for the work you did with us. I'm sure 25 years of therapy couldn't have come close to what action learning did in 8 weeks.”
